Offensive Progression
Bit by bit, as if according to a grand design or plan the Tide offense continues to introduce new wrinkles into the game plan. In recent weeks we’ve observed more two back sets and fewer designed runs for Jalen. On Saturday the Tide worked the ball more to the Tight Ends over the middle of the field. On the show we discuss this development and talk to each new dimension not so much building upon an existing facet as adding another capability to the offensive matrix.
All Beef Package
The Tide attack seems to have added even more protein to the goal line package as two DLs and a 6th OL rotate in for the three WRs that would round out a more traditional 11 personnel grouping. This leads to the rarely observed extra beefy 32 package.
Dominating Defense
Alabama held a maligned Volunteer squad to 108 yards of total offense. In registering another smothering performance the Tide continued to collect outstanding contributions from numerous players across all three levels of the defense. As predicted, this unit continues to improve and should only continue to do so as DaShawn Hand returns to the line up.
Mini Game balls
Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?
Alabama’s Next Opponent
Next up for Alabama is a much awaited bye week followed by a visit from the LSU Tigers.
Kick After – a ‘lil nugget that didn’t make the show
Saturday after the game we enjoyed a visit with a very special friend whom we affectionately call Bama Joe. Joe and his family are long time Tide supporters who we first met when we joined Tide Pride in the late 90s. Unfortunately Joe is of an age where his health isn’t always cooperative which makes his trips to Tuscaloosa much less frequent, so it’s extra special when we get to spend time in his company.
I think that’s part of what makes college football so special – the friendships and relationships that are fostered across the years around the celebration of a particular team. That certainly is a large part of my Alabama Football experience and if you’re reading this I appreciate you being a part of it too.
