Alabama Football Podcast Breaks Down Alabama vs auburn
2018 Alabama vs auburn
In this episode Tom and Dave from the Alabama Football Podcast breakdown the Tide’s Iron Bowl smackdown over the Tigers of auburn.
Sluggish Start
We discuss the similarities between the Iron Bowl and the Tide’s recent game with Mississippi State. In both contests the Tide running game steam rolled early but was scrapped. We discuss wide ranging reasons for such a switch in attack.
Tua
The Alabama offensive war machine begins and ends with Tua and the suspect health of his balky knee. Over the last two weeks the knee has appeared healthy as the Tide’s point production can attest. We pause to celebrate the versatility of the Alabama offense and discuss how this offensive renaissance may be reshaping long standing philosophies for one Nick Saban.
Offensive Weapons
Even while affording Tua his full measure, it’s safe to say the talent Alabama possesses at the skill positions is unprecedented. Tua is simply not throwing to a bunch of busters out there. The Tide is four deep in front line wide receivers and at least three deep in proven running back talent – with apologies to future, but as yet not realized, star Brian Robinson . Add in what may be the most explosive Tide Tight End of any era and the recipe makes for a Defensive Coordinator’s worst nightmare.
New Dime
In what likely establishes a new record for talk of the state of Alabama’s Dime position, we break down 3 compelling topics for those willing to venture deep into the weeds. Jared’s penalty was legit; Keaton Anderson is the backup at Dime and is a perfect example of Saban’s playing time formula; and a very curious line up combination when Alabama went to the Dime on Saturday.
Depth
As we called out in the preseason, the Tide Defense would need to manufacture depth if it, as a unit, would contribute to the lofty goals for the 2018 squad. For the most part, this deal has paid off. When Isiah Buggs was felled early in the contest, three defensive linemen were ready for the call due to their steadily increasing roles throughout the season. Likewise, Keaton Anderson represented not only the backup at Money (Dime back), he was effectively the ninth defensive back in sequence due to a pair of in-season injuries. Both scenarios likely represent the limit of the Tide’s productive reach, yet they too are poses unattainable in fall camp.
Mini Game balls
Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?
Next Up
Alabama returns to Atlanta, its home away from home, for the SEC Championship against the Bulldogs of Georgia. We hope you’ll check out the Podcast and, in the meantime, Roll Tide!
