Alabama Football Podcast Breaks Down the Tide’s heavy weight matchup with LSU
In this episode Tom and Dave from the Alabama Football Podcast break down the Tide’s seemingly annual game of the century with LSU
That Sucked, but…
Of course, losing is no fun and yes, LSU looked unstoppable at times. But there were some positive takeaways from this game too. Rallying from 20 down to make it a 5-point game, explosive big plays to keep it close, and – albeit thin – a real life chance to win eek out a win in the end. There were enough correctible mistakes in this game, while bittersweet, to bode well for this squad down the season’s final stretch.
Tua Hot and Cold
Saban’s word choice was spot on in labeling Tua a warrior in his post game comments. Battling through injury, soreness, and rust, Tua put up numbers worthy of a win. However, those same factors contributed to a handful of plays that contributed to the Tide’s undoing.
Najee’s Emergence
Over the last several weeks we’ve discussed the development of running back Najee Harris and Saturdays’ contest with LSU represented an arrival of sorts. Registering personal highs for longest run and most yardage in a game, Najee demonstrated both patience and explosiveness. One can almost imagine Alabama winning outright had Najee received 10 more carries on key second half drives. Such was the level of mastery demonstrated by Najee on the day.
Defensive Posture
Alabama tinkered with its Dime formation Saturday again LSU with mixed results. Of course, 25 missed tackles will mix anyone’s results.
We’re talking Playoffs?
Ah, thank you Jim Mora, that never gets old.
But yes, we are talking playoffs, and while the Tide is officially on the outside looking int. there are paths to reversing that fortune. While obviously the LSU game hurt the Tide’s chances, it also contains the seeds for hope. The explosive strike to pull back to within five, an on sides kick effectively deciding the game, the rally, and the underlying injury and rust contributing to arguably uncharacteristic play. Its not a lock, but you could do worse than defaulting the Tide to the 4th seed.
Mini Game balls
Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?
