Alabama Football Podcast Breaks Down the Tide’s visit to College Station

In this episode Tom and Dave from the Alabama Football Podcast break down the Tide’s 2019 visit to College Status to take on the Aggies of Texas A&M.

Offensive Line

No one roots for injury, but such is the cause for the latest, and perhaps best, edition of the 2019 offensive line. Dieonte’s return from suspension created a need for someone to make a hole, and unfortunately that came in the way of a Chris Owens knee injury. While we certainly hope for a swift and full recovery for Chris (to round out the deepest Tide line in recent memory), shifting Landon to center, enabling Evan Neil and Deonte to man the guard spots, does create a formidable interior to go with perhaps the best tackle tandem in the conference.

Running Game

As the Tide line improves, so too does the Alabama running game. But as we discussed on the podcast, the dependency is not wholly on the shoulders of the line. The backs themselves are running with greater discipline and tenacity, taking fuller advantage of what the line has to offer. In other words, both parties are elevating their contribution, which should allow the Tide ground game to improve.

Tue and the Receivers

I wish my ‘off’ days were so productive.

Depth on the Defensive Front

Saturday brought early playing time for a pair of Alabama defensive linemen. This is a good sign, as younger players are able to steal snaps earlier in games, the starters will be fresher later. This is a requirement for late season success.

Special Team

Special Teams coordinator Jeff Banks, formerly of TAMU, may have had a little extra motivation this week and it certainly showed in the performance of his troops. Explosive return and coverage teams contributed to outstanding field position for the Tide all day, while chipping in a touchdown for good measure. But not all elements came up roses, tune in for more.

Mini Game balls

Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?

2019 Listener Support Campaign

It’s not too late.  We’ve already dropped 6 bonus audios and have many more planned. To participate all you have to do is enroll in our listener support campaign.  Support the show and get more of the good stuff.

Next Up

A 3rd Saturday in October tradition continues as the Tide welcomes back one of its own in Jeremy Pruitt in his new capacity as head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.  We hope you’ll check out the Podcast and, in the meantime, Roll Tide!
