Hurts Runs Wild
Apparently Fresno didn’t get the memo that the best bet for success against the Tide is to shut down Jalen as a runner and force him to beat you with his arm. Instead it seemed the fighting Joe Tedford’s did just the opposite and allowed Hurts plenty of running opportunities.
Ball Distribution
In an upgrade over game one, the Tide distributed the ball to 11 different receivers and Tide fans will be especially pleased that this distribution included 2 tight ends and 3 running backs. Add in Alabama’s All America caliber receiver leading the way with 5 receptions and a freshman receiver catching his first touchdown and nearly no stone was left uncovered.
Game Objective
Make no mistake, this game was about Alabama working on Alabama, and Saban said as much in his post gamer. Offensive development is incremental so plenty of work remains but it was a glimpse into what the Tide might become.
Linebacker Replacements
If for no other reason you have to tune into the podcast for our take on the linebacker play in light of 4 players being out at the position. This breakdown includes emerging stars, legacy favorites, eager freshmen and steady contributors carving out roles.
Defensive Potential
We also talk about the upside that remains for this season’s stop squad, which is impressive considering how well they have already played.
Mini Game balls
Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?
Alabama’s Next Opponent
Next up for Alabama are Is Colorado State for a night game in Tuscaloosa.
Kick After – a ‘lil nugget that didn’t make the show
After the game I hung around in the stands to let the crowd filter out and to catch Saban’s postgame press conference. During the wait I struck up a conversation with a gentleman picking up ticket stubs. As it turns out Da’Ron Payne was featured on the ticket and the gentleman in question was Da’Ron’s grandfather.
The elder Payne was incredibly friendly and was clearly proud of his grandson. We talked about Da’Ron’s contributions to the team and he shared his perspective on how much Payne had matured as a player.
The ticket stubs were for family and friends back home who are all equally as proud of Da’Ron.
We hope you’ll check out the Podcast and in the meantime, Roll Tide!
