2017 Alabama vs. Vanderbilt

Alabama Football Podcast Breaks Down Alabama’s 2017 dismantling of the Vanderbilt Commodores

In this episode Tom and Dave from the Alabama Football Podcast breakdown the Tide’s victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores.

This is Alabama Football

This may have been as savage a beating I’ve ever observed. It’s one thing for an Air Raid offense to hang 70 on an undermanned defense but wholly another for a team to pound out nearly 500 yards on the ground. The 181 receiving yards, while delicious, were not necessary.

Check out the podcast where we step through the components of this beat down – outstanding play by the line, another outstanding display of ball distribution, and some impressive individual performance – plus, the one play we continue to hate.

The Kids will be A’ight

The 2017 recruiting class is certainly making is presence known. A near record number of true freshman have seen the field and at times on Saturday the announcers could hardly call a play without signaling out yet another big play attributed to a newcomer.

The highlight remains Tua’s amazing escape and touchdown pass to fellow freshman DeVonta Smith, which is a play for the ages. But contributions were also made by Najee Harris, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Brian Robinson and too many others to name. The future looks bright.

Flaming Red Shirts

Of note were the three freshmen who saw their first action of this season. Of course the significance here is that they burned their redshirt making this season of year of exhausted eligibility. Falling into this category were RB Brian Robinson and TE’s Major Tennison and Kedrick James. Check out the podcast to get our reaction and prediction as to this promises to help the Tide in more ways than one.

Defense Rounding to Form

Alabama welcomed three injured players back onto the field on Saturday, all linebackers. Not that the Tide defense needed any additional spark, but getting these players back informed a deeper rotation and more aggressive pass rush from the front seven.

Mini Game balls

Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?

Alabama’s Next Opponent

Next up for Alabama is something of a grudge match with Ole Miss returning to Tuscaloosa. Heads up Rebels, this one is a trap.

Kick After – a ‘lil nugget that didn’t make the show

I was fully expecting the upstart Commodores to put up a fight for the half of action. I believe Derrick Mason has elevated their program and they are heavy with talented upperclassmen. In my reading prior to the game I had stumbled upon a great nugget that I was eager to bring to the show, again with the expectation that it was close at half with the Tide pulling away late.

See, Vanderbilt practices in the mornings, so that the time conflicts less with classes and it serves as a deterrent against any late night shenanigans. But, that means they practice less in the heat of the day, and in what ended up being a 90+ degree day…. Well, I expected that to make for a compelling talking point. Turns out Alabama had other plans for Vanderbilt and the Commodores practice schedule was not going to matter one way or the other.

We hope you’ll check out the Podcast and in the meantime, Roll Tide!
